STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 13 CANDIDATES NEAR ELECTION END
Voters will have one last chance to cast their ballots on Election Day tomorrow (Tuesday).
One of the contested races in the area is for State Representative District 13. Republican Incumbent Leighton Shubert is running against Democrat Cecil Webster. District 13 in Texas includes Austin, Burleson, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca and Washington Counties.

Leighton Schubert was elected in a special election while the 84th Legislative Session was already underway. Prior to being elected to the Texas Legislature, Schubert had a career in public service at the county, state and federal levels of government. He served in the Harris County Office of Legislative Relations, as a law clerk for the Attorney General of Texas, as a staff assistant to a U.S. Senator, and with the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. and in South America.
Shubert says he has served the people of District 13 by representing their voice in Austin:

Colonel Cecil Webster entered the Army as a second lieutenant of the infantry, after graduating Prairie View A&M. He would remain in the Army for the next 26 years. The highlight of his military career was teaching engineering to West Point cadets at the United States Military Academy. But to do that, the Army sent him back to school to get a master’s degree in engineering from Texas A&M University in College Station. Most of his military career, however, was spent developing and testing intercontinental ballistic missile systems to protect soldiers on the battlefield and civilians in populated areas.
After retiring from the Army, Webster worked for a non-profit organization (Battelle Memorial Institute) until he left the Washington, D.C. metro area and moved to a wildlife management farm he and his wife had established outside of Carmine.
Webster says he is dedicated to creating success in District 13 in a number of areas:
