BURTON TEEN KILLED IN ACCIDENT; WAS ASPIRING FIREFIGHTER

A Burton family is in mourning after an early-morning accident claimed the life of a 15-year old Burton High School Student.

Kelby Jasinski was killed and his father seriously injured in the early-morning accident, Thursday in Caldwell County, west of Bastrop.

According to the Department of Public Safety, Kelby was a passenger in his father’s truck, when it went off the road into a dry creek bed.

Jasinski was pronounced dead at the scene.  His father, 46-year old Billy Jasinski, is hospitalized with serious-but not life threatening-injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Kelby Jasinski was an avid supporter of firefighters in Burton and across the state.  He was voted mascot for the Texas State Firefighters' and Fire Marshals' Association of Texas for 2014-2015.  Among his duties as mascot, he raised money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Burton Fire Chief Ronnie Stanley said, "Firefighting runs in his family.  Kelby's father is a firefighter and his brother is also a firefighter.  He wanted nothing more than to be a firefighter."
