JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION AT FIREMAN’S PARK JUNE 19; NO ROYALTY OR PARADE THIS YEAR

The Washington County Juneteenth celebration is coming up later this month, but this year’s activities will be much different from previous years.

The Juneteenth celebration, hosted by the Washington County Historical Juneteenth Association, will take place Saturday, June 19th at Fireman’s Park.

According to Parade Coordinator Leticia Wills-Woodard, this year’s festivities will not include a parade through downtown Brenham or a king and queen crowning.  She said the Juneteenth Association runs strictly off donations, and fundraising efforts were limited because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Activities will begin at 11 a.m. with entertainment from DJ Robert Carter, followed by the Brown Sugar Band.  Vendors will be on site selling food, snow cones, sweets, and different styles of jewelry and purses.  There will also be Juneteenth t-shirts for sale, representing different parts of Brenham that African Americans have lived in.

The Juneteenth Association is taking the names and emails of anyone interested in joining the Juneteenth board.  Anyone who wishes to donate can call Wills-Woodard at 979-446-6433.

KWHI will have a live broadcast from the Juneteenth celebration at Fireman’s Park.
