Buccaneers use quick start to stun Navarro, 11-5

Blinn scored all 11 of its runs in the first three innings

 

SUGAR LAND, Texas – The bats came out on fire for Blinn College baseball as it scored 11 runs in the first three innings to stun Navarro College 11-5 Friday night in the first round of the Region XIV Tournament at Skeeter Park in Sugar Land.

With the win, Blinn will move on to the quarterfinals to face Northeast Texas Community College Saturday, May 9 at 5 p.m. The Buccaneers overall record now improves to 27-24.

Offense busted open the game in the first and third innings and with all the run support Blinn was able to cruise to victory. Dakota Mills got the start on the for the Buccaneers and pitched six innings and only allowed two runs and struck out three to get the win.

Stephen Stuart and Jose Reyes each picked up three hits in the win, while Reyes knocked in two runs. Walker Winders and Patrick King each had two RBIs in the win.

Blinn couldn’t have asked for a better start as Cullen Jozwiak started it off with a single in the first and then later came around to score on a passed ball for the first run. King made the score 3-0 on a two-run single up the middle.

Winders was able to knock in a pair of runs with a single to center for a 5-0 lead. Reyes capped the scoring with an RBI single to center to give Blinn a 6-0 lead before Navarro could even touch a bat. Navarro did score a single run in the first and second innings to get within 6-2.

The game didn’t stay that close for long as Winders started another rally with a walk and then was followed with an RBI triple to the line in right by Reyes for a 7-2 lead in the third. Christian Thames followed with a single to left for an 8-2 advantage.

Ben Upton kept the scoring going with a bases loaded walk to push across the ninth run. Thames later scored in the inning and then Jager Toffan drove in a run with a ground out for an 11-2 advantage. That would be all the scoring from Blinn but it would be all the runs it needed as Navarro added three in the seventh to make the game feel a little closer but Blinn was still able to hold on.
