CUBETTES WIN ONE; LOSE TWO ON SECOND DAY OF TOURNEY

The Brenham Cubettes beat Calhoun, but fell to LaGrange and Columbus on day two of the Columbus Varsity Classic.

To start the day, LaGrange downed the Cubettes (4-3), 2-1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-21).

Hadley Webb had 14 kills and 16 digs, while Kenna Mikolajczak had seven kills and 10 digs.  Jodan Wellman had 22 digs.  Kelly Jurden had 14 assists and nine digs while Kaci Pect added 12 assists and seven digs.

In the Pool Play finale, the Cubettes swept Port Lavaca Calhoun, 2-0 (25-22, 25-11).

Mikolajczak had seven kills and 10 digs, while Webb added four kills, four aces and two blocks.  Wellmann had 12 digs, while Jurden had 12 assists and Pecht added 11 assists.

In the opening game of bracket play, Columbus edged the Cubettes in three grueling games, 2-1 (21-25, 28-26, 25-23).

Mikolajczak finished with 18 kills; Wellmann had 10 digs; Pecht had 19 assists and Jurden added 17 assists.

The Cubettes will conclude with consolation bracket play, Saturday.
