WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS TO RECEIVE FLOOD PAYMENT

Washington County Commissioners are expected to accept the latest state payment for repairs due to flooding last spring.

Tuesday, the County Commissioners are expected to accept a nearly $75,000 payment from the Texas Division of Emergency Management.

The money would be a 75-percent reimbursement for money the county has spent to repair May flood damage.

Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke says the county has spent just over $99,000 on flood damage.

Also at Tuesday morning’s meeting, commissioners are expected to:

--Make appointments to the county Homeland Security Advisory Committee.

--Approve revised bylaws for the Washington County Salary Review Committee.

--Approve a purchasing agreement with the Harris County Department of Education for products and supplies.

--And, approve a water line crossing for the 5500 block of Rehburg Rd.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m. in room 103 of the county courthouse.

  1. Are the commissioners expecting our county jail to pay for Immigration prisoners housing expenses ? Is our sheriiffs dept. holding these prisioners for days at $55.00 per day? If so,
The STATE and FEDS are again handing out unfunded mandates at county taxpayer expense. As of 2017 we are no longer reimbursed for that expense. Would be nice to get some answers from these SALARIED with BENEFITS elected commissioners.

  2. What do Homeland Security Advisor committee members get paid? What are they advising and to whom? And what are they advising the public about? How to build a bomb shelter on the payment plan? Seriously, what are the details of this committees work? I am thinking there are many others who would like to know. Nothing on Washington county website.

    1. I once sat on the committee and represented an volunteer organization here in the county . You do not get paid to sit on the committee; you are chosen and it’s mostly, police officers, fire chiefs, county judges, commissioners etc and they meet once a month over in Bryan at the COG. Since my job was not in the emergency services, I was not paid to go as many of these officers, etc. are. The meeting is held during the day and I had to take off of work to attend-when I stopped going because it was costing me vacation time, I was taken off of the committee and replaced. Lots of things are discussed at these meetings-funding for emergency services, grants, etc. It was a very informative meeting and I enjoyed attending, but not at the expense of my vacation time.
