FEMALE CORRECTONS OFFICER AT WOMEN’S PRISON DIES
Corrections Officer Shana Tedder, age 41, died last Friday around 3:00pm in the Christina Melton Crain Unit
of the women’s prison in Gatesville.
Her medical emergency followed a “use of force” incident with an inmate, according to state prison officials. The cause of the incident has not been released.
After the incident with the offender, Tedder complained of shortness of breath, and went to rest before collapsing.
Staff attempted life-saving measures while waiting for paramedics, however the paramedics were unable to revive her.
Tedder has been a part of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice since 2005.

Based on what remarks do you make your allegation?
My condolences to her family and friends. I hope this institution is not one of the unair- conditioned ones in our state. Heat could have contributed to her death. I believe a judge has ordered Texas to air condition our prisons as heat contributes to deaths in our prisons annually. That means staff are subjected to the same inhumane conditions.
