CITY COUNCIL APPROVES AGREEMENT WITH BLINN COLLEGE
The Blinn College Softball team will continue to use their field at Hohlt Park, at least for the next 9 years. Brenham City Council approved an agreement with Blinn College Thursday for their use of the Blinn Softball Field. Blinn originally contributed $200,000 towards the construction of the field and the adjacent dressing room. The new agreement calls for Blinn to pay $10,000 annually for maintenance to the field and that amount increases by $1250 each year until 2027. Blinn will also pay for any maintenance to the dressing room facility and any major renovations to the field will be negotiated between the city and Blinn.
Also approved during Thursday’s meeting is a 5 percent increase in the Landfill Disposal Rates with Clean Harbors Environmental Services. The City contracted with Clean Harbors in 2015 to haul waste to their landfill in Altair for $16.86 per ton. The city increased the tipping fees charged at the collection station last October in anticipation of the rate increase. Council also approved the lease of five copiers from Ricoh USA. The five copiers will be leased at a cost of $14,040 per year and will replace 5 older copiers that will be sold through GovDeals.
Brenham’s Chief Financial Officer Carolyn Miller reviewed the First Quarter financial report with the council members. She said that all of the city’s funds experienced favorable actual net revenues during the first quarter and that no unusual or unanticipated trends were noted.
Council approved several Noise Variances for upcoming events. The Brenham Maifest Association’s Color Fun Run on April 28th at Henderson Park was granted a Noise Variance along with the traditional celebration at Fireman’s Park scheduled for May 3rd, 4th, and 5th. A Noise Variance was also granted for the National Day of Prayer Event scheduled for the Courthouse Gazebo on May 3rd from noon to 1:00 PM.
