McKINNEY HOME TO 2018 SPELLING CHAMPION

The 2018 Scripps National Spelling Bee has wrapped up, and a 14-year-old from McKinney, Texas is the new champion.

Karthik Nemmani won the spelling bee Thursday night after correctly spelling koinonia.  This was Nemmani’s first time competing in the national finals.

Nemmani was one of 515 contestants in this year’s event, winning over 12-year-old Naysa Modi in the eighteenth round, when she misspelled bewussteinslage.
