WASHINGTON CO. COMMISSIONERS LOOKING TO APPROVE CONTRACT FOR ROAD AND BRIDGE FACILITY

Washington County Commissioners will look to take their next step with the building of the new county Road and Bridge facility at Tuesday’s meeting.

Commissioners will look to enter into a contract with Collier Construction, after awarding a $4,081,000 bid at their meeting on November 27th.  The bid includes a $4,020,000 base bid, with $61,000 for alternate additions like galvanized steel beams and high volume, low speed fans.

County Judge John Brieden said a contract has been put forward and reviewed, and, pending approval, the next step is “turning dirt”.

The facility will be built on 21 acres of property on Highway 36 North. Brieden stated at the November 27th meeting that the county had enough cash in reserves to fund the project.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, commissioners will seek approval to advertise for oil, gas, and mineral leasing on 2,387 acres of county-owned school land in Tom Green County. Commissioners chose to open up advertising for the entirety of the land in October.

None of the school land is leased for drilling at this point, but Brieden said so far, one party has expressed interest in bidding.

The county will also look at approving changes to several community service contracts with local organizations. Brieden said these changes allow for added payment for services rendered from these groups, such as the Washington County Healthy Living Association, Boys and Girls Club, CASA, Pregnancy Care Center, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (N.A.M.I.), and the Sexual Assault Resource Center (SARC)

The court will also look at appointments and reappointments to the Washington County Historical Commission, for the 2018-19 term. In addition, it will consider renewal of a Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s bond, and adding a section to the county employee policy handbook concerning cyber security awareness training.

The court will also look at granting authorization to the county treasurer, auditor and judge to make budget amendments and line-item transfers, if needed, to close out the 2018 fiscal year.

Commissioners will also go over a long list of reports, leading with the annual Extension Agriculture report. They will also receive monthly reports from the Sheriff’s Office, County Road and Bridge, 911, IT Department, EMS, and Veterans Service Officer.

Other monthly reports to be covered include the district and county clerks, Emergency Management Coordinator, Fairgrounds Management, Justices of the Peace, tax assessor, auditor, constables, and the treasurer’s monthly financial report.

Commissioners will meet Tuesday at 9 a.m., at the Washington County Courthouse.
