DAVIDSON CREEK, BRAZOS RIVER AT RISK OF FLOODING

  

With the ongoing rains in the area, several rivers continue to rise and are at the risk of flooding.

A River Flood Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service for Davidson Creek, near Lyons.  The warning is in effect until Friday afternoon, or until the warning is cancelled.  Minor flooding is in the forecast.

As of 7 p.m. Wednesday evening, the stage was at 14.2 feet, with flood stage at 16 feet.  The river is projected to rise above flood stage to about 16.7 feet by this (Thursday) afternoon.  It is expected to fall below flood stage by early tomorrow (Friday) morning.  At 17 feet, moderate lowland flooding begins.

Meanwhile, the Brazos River is also projected to rise heavily.  The Brazos River Authority predicts the river near Hempstead will reach heights of 52.4 feet by Sunday afternoon.  As of 9 a.m. Thursday morning, the river’s observed level was 35.7 feet.  Flood stage for the river near Hempstead is 50 feet, while moderate flood stage is 53 feet.

The Brazos River at Richmond is projected to peak at 43.7 feet by Tuesday, while flood stage is 45 feet.  Its last observed level was 37.4 feet.

In Rosharon, the Brazos could rise to 45.7 feet by Tuesday, two feet more than its current level of 43.8 feet, and two feet above flood stage.  The river above San Felipe is currently at 109 feet, below action stage, but is projected to crest at 120.7 feet by Tuesday.  Flood stage is 122.5 feet.
