WALK WITH A DOC SATURDAY AT BLINN KRUSE CENTER

The City of Brenham and the Baylor Scott and White Brenham Clinic will be kicking off this year’s Walk with a Doc program this Saturday, January 26.  The walk begins at the new Kruse Center on the Blinn College campus, 300 Blinn Blvd. at 9:00 AM.  This month’s topic is “New Year’s Resolutions" with Dr. Debbie Pierce.  After the talk, participants will go on a 30 minute walk where they can have their questions answered by the physician.

Why Walk? "There’s no question that increasing exercise, even moderately, reduces the risks of many diseases, including coronary heart disease, breast and colon cancer, and Type 2 diabetes," said Eric Alford, M.D. of Baylor Scott & White – The Brenham Clinic. Dr. Alford continues, "Research has even shown that you could gain two hours of life for each hour that you exercise regularly. Walking is one of the simplest ways you can stay in shape and improve your overall well-being. The American Heart Association recommends brisk walking 30 minutes per day at least 5 days a week for a total of 150 minutes. By following this easy suggestion, one can decrease the risk of multiple chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, stroke, some forms of cancer, and more. Research even shows that for some adults, every 1 hour of vigorous walking may increase life expectancy by 2 hours."
