RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY FOR NEW PICKLEBALL COURTS IN BRENHAM THURSDAY

  

This (Thursday) afternoon, the City of Brenham will hold a dedication ceremony for the six new pickleball courts at Jackson Street Park.

The ribbon-cutting will be held at 4:30 p.m., and will feature a brief ceremony.  It will be followed by a demonstration of the sport, by members of the Brenham Pickleball League.

But what is pickleball?  Pickleball is a family-friendly paddle sport that brings together elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.  Two to four players use a wiffle-ball and composite paddles, on a surface half the size of a tennis court with a slightly lower net.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Advisory Board approved the conversion of two existing tennis courts at the park to accommodate six new permanent pickleball courts, to give the growing community a place to play.

The Brenham Pickleball League meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and Sundays at 4 p.m. for open play, weather permitting.

An intro to Pickleball clinic will be held on the first Sunday of February, March and April at Jackson Street Park from 3 to 4 p.m.  Pre-registration can be done online at http://rectrac.cityofbrenham.org.
