SURVEY RESULTS RELEASED FROM BRENHAM TOWN HALL MEETING ON COMPREHENSIVE PLAN UPDATE
The polls are in from the town hall meeting that was hosted earlier this month in Brenham.
Over 150 citizens and business owners packed the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library on January 10th, to discuss the city’s comprehensive plan. Those in attendance were asked to complete a survey to define their priorities for the city.
According to results gathered from participants, the community’s top priority is downtown investment and enhancement.
The community's next priority is having diverse employment opportunities, followed by police, fire and ambulance services.
After that, its priorities are more shopping and services, recreation amenities, like parks and trails, and improved traffic flow.
There were also three common themes presented throughout the meeting and in the survey results. Many participants called for more attention to the congestion that occurs at the cloverleaf, or the intersection of Highway 290 and State Highway 36.
There were also many people that said Brenham’s physical appearance and image is very important for its economic development and success as a community. In addition, many agree that it is important for Brenham to work on existing neighborhoods and areas of the city, as new development and growth continues. This includes a focus on maintaining current properties and roads.
The City will host a come-and-go Open House on Brenham’s Future on Thursday, February 28 from 5:15 to 7 p.m., at the Barnhill Center. This event will focus on certain aspects of the comprehensive plan based on survey results.
A comprehensive plan is a long-range planning document that prioritizes the city’s goals for the next 20 years, and examines the needs of the community.
The city’s current comprehensive plan was adopted in November of 2008, and the city hopes to adopt the new plan this summer or fall.
