McCAUL INTRODUCES LEGISLATION GIVING ECONOMIC BOOST TO YOUTH IN AGRICULTURE
U.S. Congressman Michael McCaul has introduced a bill with other lawmakers, which would give a tax exemption to youth involved in agriculture.

McCaul, along with Henry Cuellar (D-TX) and Collin Peterson (D-MN), have introduced House Resolution 1770, also known as the Student Agriculture Protection Act of 2019.
If passed, the act would create a tax bracket exemption for the first $5,000 in proceeds on the sale of livestock or agricultural projects by FFA or 4-H participants.
McCaul said the nation “must ensure more young farmers are joining the workforce”, in order to continue the work that helped make it a world leader in agriculture. Cuellar said this tax exemption will allow thousands of students who participate in livestock and county fairs to “take home a larger portion of what they earn”.
American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said the future of agriculture depends on talented youths pursuing farming and ranching careers, saying student agricultural projects “encourage interest in fields of study that will provide the next generation of farmers”.
McCaul’s 10th District includes Washington County, along with several other rural counties in southeast Texas.
