FLASH FLOOD WATCH FOR LARGE PART OF SOUTHEAST, SOUTH CENTRAL TEXAS THROUGH SATURDAY

Nearly all of southeast Texas and much of south central Texas have been placed under flash flood watch through Saturday evening.

Counties included in the flash flood watch are Austin, Bastrop, Brazos, Burleson, Caldwell, Colorado, Fayette, Grimes, Lavaca, Lee, Walker, Waller, and Washington Counties.  The watch extends through 7 p.m. Saturday.

A flash flood watch means conditions could develop that lead to flash flooding.  People are asked to monitor their local forecasts and be prepared to take action, should a warning be issued.

Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall are expected through the watch period in southeast Texas.  The first round of storms could occur later this (Thursday) afternoon through tomorrow (Friday) morning, as a front moves through the area.  A second round of storms could occur late tomorrow into Saturday evening.

Forecasted rainfall totals estimate about 5-8 inches widespread, with isolated 9-12 inches possible through the weekend.  With soils remaining saturated from previous rainfall, additional rainfall should run off quickly, which could cause flooding.

Meanwhile in south central Texas, rainfall amounts could range from 2-4 inches for the Hill Country and I-35 corridor, including the Austin and San Antonio metro areas.  For areas east of the I-35 corridor across the coastal plains, 4-6 inches of rain is possible, with heavier amounts locally.
