JOBLESS RATE DROPS IN WASHINGTON CO.

  

Washington County’s unemployment rate dipped nearly one percent over the past month.

Texas Workforce Commission data from April shows the county’s jobless rate dropped down to 2.8 percent, down from 3.7 percent in March.

The total labor force in the county in April was 15,075, with 418 out of work. In March, the work force totaled 15,249, with 558 jobless.

Last April, the unemployment rate sat at 3.2 percent, with a labor force of 15,018 and 483 unemployed.

The state’s unemployment rate fell back down to 3.7 percent, returning to the historic low last held in December 2018.

The state economy saw continued employment growth in April, with 28,900 seasonally adjusted nonfarm positions added. April was the 108th consecutive month of annual growth for total nonfarm employment.

The April jobless rates for surrounding counties include:

  • Austin County – 2.8 percent, down six-tenths from March.
  • Brazos County – 2.1 percent, down five-tenths.
  • Burleson County – 2.6 percent, also down five-tenths.
  • Fayette County – 2.3 percent, also down five-tenths from March.
  • Grimes County – 3.2 percent, down seven-tenths.
  • Lee County – 2.4 percent, down six-tenths.
  • Waller County – 3 percent, down eight-tenths.
