LEE CO., CITIES OF GIDDINGS AND LEXINGTON DECLARE LOCAL DISASTERS

The Lee County Judge and the Mayors of Giddings and Lexington have all declared local states of disaster stemming from COVID-19.

The declarations, all issued today (Friday) and lasting for seven days, mirror the guidelines set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), President Donald Trump, and Governor Greg Abbott.

As per those guidelines, citizens will avoid social gatherings in groups of more than ten; dine-in restaurants and bars will be closed, as well as gyms and massage parlors; and visitors will not be allowed to nursing homes or retirement or long-term care facilities.

According to a joint press release from Lee County Judge Paul Fischer, Giddings Mayor John Dowell, and Lexington Mayor Allen Retzlaff, some testing has begun in Lee County, as test kits are beginning to make their way to local healthcare providers and hospitals.

At this time, Lee County does not have any confirmed cases of COVID-19.
