SEVERELY EMACIATED HORSE ABANDONED ON ROADSIDE IN BROOKSHIRE; $5,000 REWARD OFFERED
Police in Brookshire are searching for a suspect who authorities say dumped a severely emaciated horse on the side of a road.
The horse, which is now being cared for by the Houston SPCA’s Equine Rescue Team, was found by witnesses off of 11th Street and Highway 359 on Friday. Equine veterinarians working with the horse say it is 16 years old, but is showing a strong will to live.
According to veterinarians, in addition to starvation, the horse’s coat was matted with manure, and the lack of care has been causing severe pain to her feet and tendons. The horse will undergo a slow re-feeding plan and therapeutic hoof treatment through her rehabilitation.
