PEACEFUL PROTESTORS GATHER IN BRENHAM; SECOND PROTEST PLANNED TUESDAY

Dozens of peaceful protestors lined North Park Street by the American Legion Hall and Henderson Park in Brenham Monday evening to ask for justice, following the death of Houston-native George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The gathering started with a small group which gradually grew as the evening went on, with each side of the street holding several dozen people.  The event remained peaceful throughout its duration.

Leticia Wills was the coordinator of Monday’s gathering, and also protested for several hours Sunday in Bryan.  She said it was important for the people of Brenham to get involved in the movement.

Wills said she was happy to see a very diverse group turn out for Monday’s gathering, consisting of people of all ages and ethnic groups.

Many cars driving by on Park Street honked their horns and waved in support of the protestors, several of which held up signs reading “No Justice, No Peace”, “Black Lives Matter”, and “I Can’t Breathe”.

Another protest is planned this (Tuesday) evening at the same location and same time, from 5 to 7 p.m.

  1. Great job….We have to start somewhere in Brenham…because it’s a lot of Us are scare to protest there….that why they keep passing laws there to benefit them. BTW who is the head of the NAACP there?…I might need to run for that position

  2. This evening was absolutely amazing! We united in such a peaceful way, and were able to sing in unity songs such as, “This little light of mine”, and “Lean on me”. Present were representation of all races, and it was truly a beautiful sight. If we do not stand for something we will fall for anything, and tonight’s peaceful protest symbolized we “stand” in unity for justice, and true liberty for all mankind. God be with us!

    1. It was amazing! I feel so proud of our community for coming together and having our voices be heard for positive change!

  3. I don’t understand why people in the right state of mind, or why law abiding citizens, resist arrest? So much violence and even death would be prevented if citizens would simply not resist arrest.

    1. Wow!!! Did you even watch the video! Just asking? with a comment like that. Not all young, or old Black Men that are being killed by the police is resisting arrest as you put it. BLM….

    2. I don’t know where you are getting your information or what you are getting at here but I am going to take a shot in the dark here and answer.
George Floyd did not resist arrest. And at no point does even resisting arrest warrant law enforcement killing anyone so I would suggest you take your information elsewhere or educate yourself.

  4. I was a Freshman at BHS school when integrated & Pickard High students joined us year ’65. That’s over 50 YEARs ago &: I am still friends w/all 5 that joined my class. I know it was tougher on the 5 than the rest of our caucasian race to fit in.Today I have lots of friends of mixed races & run into some of the 5 periodically. My folks whom both families were from Polish Immigrant families always instilled in us this comment that I’ve said a zillion times to my children…. “In LIFE you need a good circle of friends no matter the race ” & yes all 3 of my children have many friends of other races & nationally. Everyones RACE needs to accept others & start living better or else this HATE will be with our children & grandchildren when they reach my age. No public servant should ever hold a public job w/o being tested for behavior. I’m told yrs.ago before entering the Military applicants were tested this way but the test no longer exist because of Violation of their Rights. I’d rather rights be volated & deal w/that then to have a life lost because of what happened Friday in another State.

    1. Maybe a religious test?

I’d definitively go for a return to our Christian and Constitutional roots where religion as mentioned in the 1st Amendment refers only to your established denomination, Catholic or Protestant.

We need a unifying culture like what we had up until about 50 years ago, the multiculture will never work. Multi racial can work, but not when a unifying culture is missing or under attack.

This protest is frivolous, it amounts to a protest of human nature. Bad people exist in walks of life, and it doesn’t matter how much use of force is trained on. But not only that, the protest is complete hypocrisy in that the messages are all the same while lives and businesses are destroyed. What about those families that will never see their father again? Or are those LE that were killed by protestors just a necessary blood sacrifice for what exactly? Free love, right boomer? Peace? No Justice No Peace you say?

So what is this No justice no peace form of justice? Sounds like it might be mob rule with a made up morality by a bunch of flaky and emoting far left revolutionaries still living with mommy.

  5. Way to go Brenham I wasn’t there but I’m a supporter and hope that the officer that killed Mr floyed as well as the other four officers are charged also.If you do a Crime I believe you should be punished BUT NO ONE I MEAN NO ONE SHOULD BE TREATED LIKE MR FLOYED WAS TREATED.That is down right hateful and they shouldn’t be able to walk the streets ever again. He has family and alot of friends that will miss him dearly and they will never be able to see him,hug him or talk to him ever agsin. So let’s all stick together and make sure Justice is served for Mr Floyed.

  6. What happened to Social Distancing? We still do it in CHURCH but not in protests?
    Interesting, isn’t it ?

    1. Calm down!! They are still wearing masks. This is JUST AS important as everyone’s health. They have the right to peacefully protest and by all means I wish I could be right there with them. So instead of judging people, support this movement. Support it with us all and join as allies so change can start and evil can be held accountable.

    2. you’re really over here concerned about social distancing rather than being concerned over racism? i saw y’all in mass protests about wanting to open up businesses and to get haircuts in, but when it comes to blm, you decide to comment about social distancing? read the room.

      1. READ THE ROOM!!!!?? What room?? The whole house has had a brick thrown through the window and now its on fire. Its hard to get excited about a movement when the ones pushing it are looting and destroying everything in site. Yes it is time to open everything up. EVERYTHING!! Should never have had a shut down to begin with. What happened to that man was wrong. Arrest the suspect and let the courts have him. I doubt he will get off scott free. Whats gonna happen when they start burning Brenham?? Are you gonna read the room then. I have been working a long time and I am not gonna stand buy and watch all i have be looted and burned. This is not how you change things!!

        1. No one has said a word about burning anything . It was a peaceful movement. I was born and raised in Brenham. My mother resides here. But I have to realize negative people bring negative comments. If you feel what was done to George Floyd come and join the peaceful protest. Anyone who don’t type they real name I don’t take serious . Let me show you how it is done .

        2. you locals make me cringe. read the room literally means to understand and to feel the emotion of the situation, not an actual room that you need to read. also you need to calm down. i get that you’re upset about property getting destroyed, but you need to educate yourself better on this. protesters and looters are 2 different people. a protester just wants to peacefully protest for their rights, in this case, black lives matter. y’all weren’t seeing this back when they were peacefully protesting a while back, but now y’all are shocked that it’s become to rioting. they wanted to be heard, so rioting was a great answer. also, most of the riots are started by the police. the media doesn’t want to show you guys that, but thanks to twitter, we can see everything. there are cops charging protesters with full on gear THROWING tear gas while the crowd is chanting “hands up don’t shoot”. the media is also blaming the black community for vandalizing property when in reality a majority are from other races FOR EXAMPLE THE PRIVILEGED WHITE COMMUNITY. there was a video of these 2 white people spray painting a starbucks. i bet you didn’t see that on the news. talking about the shutdown, it was a huge health hazard to have ALL businesses open and running normal hours with the risk of spreading the virus rapidly. that’s why there were shut downs. y’all need to stop worrying about wanting to bring back society from a pandemic causing shut down and to worry about other people’s lives. there are blacks dying every single day just because the color of their skin and you wanna worry about lifting the shut down? the 4 cops did get arrested fwi but were not gonna stop there. were going to bring justice to ALL of the brothers and sisters that lost their lives due to police brutality and racism. this fight will go on until justice has been restored and rewarded to the black community. what did you think happened during the mlk era? did you think they ended segregation from peaceful protests? no they had to full on fight for it. you guys just don’t get it. and with the brenham burning, brenham did burn down a long time ago to the grounds and we recovered. so i’m not worried about brenham getting burned down from rioting. we can recover again.

  7. Agreed, I saw a poll that found that 96 percent of Americans are in agreement on this injustice. Its unfortunate that its being politicized as part of 2020 election and that Antifa, a terrorist group, is trying to foment racial disharmony and attempting to overthrow our republic

  8. That is the way it should be. Watching from afar, I am ashamed of the way that the antifa folks (lil a) have made a mockery of this very good man’s death at the hands of a brutal person that was employed by a police department. What is almost worse is that there were several other officers there that did not stop this.

I love America, I love our police force, I hate violence against the people.

I have been in a few places where this would not have even made the news.

    God Bless America

And let’s get this guy in jail and heal.
