WASHINGTON CO. NOW AT 245 TOTAL COVID-19 CASES AFTER THREE REPORTED WEDNESDAY

27 OF 57 ACTIVE CASES UNDER 40 YEARS OLD

Three new COVID-19 cases and the 30th patient death were confirmed Wednesday by Washington County health officials.

The three cases were confirmed in Brenham women in their 40s and 80s and a man in his 20s from the Carmine area.  One of the cases was reported in an employee in the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center (BNRC).

Washington County Joint Information Center (JIC) officials say the newly reported death actually occurred May 17th, but the county was only just notified of the change by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS).

The county now has 245 total positive cases, with 158 recovered and 57 active.  Four patients are hospitalized.  Of the remaining active cases, 27 are under the age of 40.

With Wednesday’s new case, there are now two active cases at the Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, which has 112 positive cases—87 residents and 25 employees.  Neither of the active cases are hospitalized.  The facility has had 86 patient recoveries and 24 deaths.

The county as of Wednesday has performed an estimated 3,995 COVID-19 tests, 223 of them at the BNRC.

For the full list of COVID-19 cases in the county, go online to www.washingtoncountyems.net/covid-19-confirmed-cases.  To visit the JIC website providing COVID-19 information, click here.

  1. smitty is right polio was a lot worse than corana virus and everyone went about their daily activites and we got through that. we will also get through this if you want to crawl under a rock go ahead but a lot of the people choose to live their lives as normal as we can remember you will never get this time back live for the day don’t worry be happy spend all the time you can with your family

  2. and cue the shut it down, mandate mask or else crowd
I and many others are tired of the debate. All has been said that needs to be said. We will not compromise and we will live life as we see fit, according to our values.
We will teach our values to our children and they will be of the some mind. Having become wise to the methods that the left has used to indoctrinate our children, that will no longer work. So scream, shout, jump up and down, in our eyes you are folly and a harm to self others by your ignorance of your own nature, the value of the economy, and facts surrounding the virus.
I have never once slowed down during this manufactured crisis. My family and I do not need to slow down as we continue to enjoy life. We will happily start school in the fall also.

    1. And …..cue the state losing moderate Republican voters because of “muh freedoms!”
School won’t be open if everyone is sick. Good luck.

  3. When oh when will Mayor Tate and Judge Durrenberger put a mask order in effect??? Show some leadership and that you care about the health of your family and friends! What is the hold up?? We are going to drag out the covid 19 issue if they don’t. This is not a political issue although our president has made it appear so and how is that all going down? When are we going to feel safe sending our kids back to school so more parents can return to work?? Talk about an issue that effects the economy!!! I guess people who are refusing to wear masks and social distance still think this is all a hoax. Well, it’s not people. I also guess you will be the people who refuse to get a vaccine when it comes out? Wearing a mask to protect others and yourself from them. Go ahead and voice those constitutional rights and see where that gets all of us or throw up your hands and say neither of tbose things work. I prefer to listen to medical experts instead of a crazy federal government and err on the side of caution. Come on Mayor Tate and Judge Durrenberger! Show some intelligence and bravery and do what you were elected to do – care about your community. Do we need more cases and deaths??

    1. I totally agree! This is not a fascist invasion of our freedom any more than requiring drivers to have auto insurance. It protects the general welfare of the tax paying public. Common sense is lacking in this county.

    2. Quit worrying about everyone else and wear your mask and breath all your bacteria all day long and see who ends up at the ER with health issues and respiratory problems! Also you should be ashamed of yourself for bullying the mayor into mandating the wearing of mask!

This is hear to stay so stay inside with your mask and gloves on and if you have a face shield keep it on too! How about you just wear a hazmat suit if you go out in the community!

I’m gonna live my life like before the March pandemic hit our community and if the good lord says it’s my time well then it’s my time but I’m definitely not gonna change my lifestyle for anyone and I suggest if your healthy, strong, and in shape then I think most of us will be fine! It’s all choices in life and if you choose to wear your mask then good for you but if I along with others choose not to then so be it!!!

“We are only here for a little while”

      Addressed to Fed up citizen…

      1. Yoi mention Our Good Lord…would you hear His still small voice if He told you to wear a face mask, or are your beliefs so entrenched that it’s only His will be done if it leans unto your own understanding? Pro 3: 5-6

      2. “Quit worrying about everyone else” is what you say when that person’s choices have no effect on the general public. Is that your attitude when you see someone drunk getting into their car? It’s become so clear how selfish our society has become.

I live in a city with a face mask mandate and I am grateful for this. Our face masks are a sign of solidarity as a community. We wear them FOR each other. We wear the masks and we socially distance as recommended by the CDC. It’s the only way we can attempt to proceed with “business as usual” as unusual as it is. Are the masks annoying? Sure. So is wearing a seatbelt when you’re pregnant. I sit through hour long meetings with a face mask (when in person meetings are necessary) and as uncomfortable as it is, this is how things need to be until this is eradicated. It just is what it is. I trust medical professionals on this issue – not politicians.

To your point, we wake up every day knowing it could be our last. But you better believe I wear my seat belt and look both ways before I cross the street . This completely asinine fight against wearing face protection is beyond me. Sadly we can blame the “new” American culture for this. This is not about civil liberties, but clearly someone has fooled you otherwise.

      3. I think we would all agree that In modern society we have laws, rules and guidelines in place because we can’t trust a good portion of the general public to follow them without fear of repercussion. The covid situation is no different. We elect leaders to LEAD, and when that isn’t happening (Texas, I love you, but epic fail), we are allowed — no, it is our duty –to voice concerns and ask for help. How is it bullying to ask our leaders to put simple mandates in place that would protect us all? Your elected officials are good people– grown-ups with intellect –whose job it is to hear their citizens’ concerns and protect the people they serve, especially when it’s something that can mean the difference between life and death….. as well as protect the local economy. If it’s bullying to express worry and ask for better policies, then “Brenham, we have a problem”.

It’s heart-breaking watching from afar. Ya done messed up, Texas, by choosing to make masks a political issue. Now the Lone Star State will go blue in November. Was it worth it?

    3. I am FED UP to. I am fed up with everyone else demanding that government step in and tell me how I MUST live my life. Tate and Durrenberger were not elected to play the role of Big Brother, they were elected to run our local governments. Masks are not exactly a proven science, many people have trouble breathing when forced to wear them, and at the end of the day, this is supposed to be the land of the free and the home of the brave, not the land of the automatonlike unthinking beings and the home of the people frightened of their shadow. Make wise choices for yourself and allow everyone to do the same. Enough with your fears infringing upon my rights!

    4. Agree! Jesus left the 99 to go after & save the one lost sheep…we, the human race, can temporarily be inconvenienced, exhibit a modicum of selflessness & don a mask for our neighbor & save “the one” from being infected.

    5. Amen, Fed up.

I guess I’m lucky to live in a state with a mask mandate. You can’t enter the grocery store without a mask. So you put the mask on for 30 minutes to do your shopping. Big whoop. Some grumbled about it at first, but everyone got over it. Everyone gets that this little ol thing like wearing a mask is just for the time being so that the community is safer, and businesses can be open with minimal collateral damage. The result —our local economy is back to booming, with confidence. Turns out people feel more comfortable in stores/restaurants that have safe and smart policies in place, so they’re out and about spending money. Added bonus — we sleep better at night knowing we did our best to slow the spread of this nasty thing until the vaccine comes out.
America, a mask is a stupid hill to die (and kill) on. It’s not too late but time is running out. It won’t be forever. Just put it on already and be a team player. The sooner you do, the sooner life can get back to normal.

  4. We have no idea how many people in the county have been tested. My workplace tested over 200 people and had 1 positive test. There is no telling how many people have tested negative. Regardless, we need to keep using the safety measures or we will all be in big trouble.

  5. I hope that the two physicians who comment on the covid-19 frequently will step in to explain this phenomenon. They have both said that wearing a mask does NOT help, that only older people are sickening and dying, and commented for the rest of us “if you’re scared, just don’t go out” and that the number of cases and deaths has been overcounted. It seems to me that the numbers related so far or exact, and more people under 50 are now infected then there were several months ago.
When I returned to Brenham last Saturday on highway 290, the line at the BBQ stand across from the bowling alley was closely packed, and only one person was wearing a mask. There were also several small children in and around the line. The sports bar on West Main Street across from Memorial Oaks was busy, and no one that I saw was wearing a mask; they were all so much closer together than 6 feet. It’s pathetically interesting to see how politicians can offer advice that is more accepted (and sometimes mandated) than the advice offered by physicians, and when physicians offer advice, it is downplayed (or even dismissed) by the politicians. Then there are those who don’t believe the government, and who won’t follow medical advice, and believe this is nothing worse then an average flu year; in looking at the last 2 or 3 days of patients admitted and placed in ICU beds in the Houston area, I can never remember them being this filled from just the flu.
If you’re old enough to remember the horrors of polio, you can remember when children were lined up at their school and given the dose of whatever-it-was. My parents didn’t complain about that preventive measure, none of the kids or teachers argued about it, the federal government was wholly behind it, and physicians had said that the disease could be eradicated in the U.S.–and it was.
Everyone worked together, and it worked for everyone.

    1. Polio – caused by fecal matter (very small fragments) spread through contaminated food, water, saliva. Children easily pass it from one to another. Passed around alot in the third world and those in poverty.

Had the same craziness applied then, children would have not gone to school at all, food would only be eaten from cans, you would have all had mandated plastic gloves and masks gone to jail while criminals were released. Polio is much more dangerous than COVID yet kids still went to school, that would be child endangerment now and subject to many a lawsuite. Oh, last but not lease, ya’ll would all need to close up shop and go home to prevent the spread and keep your kids from being contaminated.

Probably not your intent but thanks for providing yet another reason to get back to business as usual now. No one is working together is right, half the country is still at home feeling sorry themselves, ever since they learned that they’re a victim of capitalist oppressors that just want their labor.

But don’t worry about the past. Many many many of us value it, we did just run an entire presidential campaign and won based on bringing back American best practices and values.

  6. Does not look too good seems to be rising kind of quick and you got to remember over 35,000 people live in the county and only 3,000 and somebody have been tested

    1. 57 active but I guess the number will always start at day 0 from now until the end of time. Bigger the number , more drama .

    2. Agreed, it’s back on the rise. Wear masks, social distance and stay home if you can.

    3. Roughly a 3.5% infected rate based on tests and active cases if you remove the BNRC numbers. BNRC infection rates are 50% based on 112 cases and 223 tests. Take the facts for what they are worth.

      1. The truth is that your fancy statistics don’t mean a thing when it becomes personal. My sweet aunt is one of those “BNRC numbers” and I don’t appreciate you making her life a percentage as if she is expendable. To those of you always downplaying the seriousness in your comments, be sure you post a comment letting us all know when it becomes personal for you.

        1. Amen, & so sorry for your loss! We’ve another pandemic, the pandemic of ignorance!!! Smh

    4. There has NOT been enough testing done to intelligently determine the rate of infection. Test more!
