BRENHAM ISD STUDENTS RETURN TO CLASS

After a seemingly never-ending spring and summer break, classes are back in session for Brenham ISD.

Thousands of students across Brenham ISD’s elementary, middle, and high school campuses returned to school today (Tuesday), but not all students physically came back.

Through commitment forms issued by the district to families, about 68 percent of students have indicated they prefer face-to-face instruction, while 31.2 percent wish to learn remotely.  Approximately 0.7 percent of students have informed the district they intend to withdraw.

Being cautious and safe amid the COVID-19 pandemic has been a paramount concern for school administrators, as evidenced by the district’s creation of a COVID-19 response team made up of district and campus officials.

Other preventative measures established include the regular cleaning and disinfecting of facilities, limiting visitation to essential staff, and instructing students to walk on the right side of hallways in between classes.  The district is also requiring all staff, as well as students grades 5-12, to wear face coverings; students in Pre-K through 4th grade are encouraged—but not required—to do so.

Krause Elementary School Principal Courtney Mason said while there may be some bumps in the road, the district is doing all it can to keep students and staff safe.

With the coming of the new school year, Brenham Middle School Principal Peggy Still said she knows many parents are worried, and wants to reassure them that the district will work to meet the needs of all students, whether they are at home or on campus.

If there has been any lesson Brenham High School Principal Joe Chandler has learned as a result of the pandemic, it is to be grateful for what you have, as the next hour or the next day may bring significant changes.

Brenham ISD’s theme for this school year is “CUB Proud – Committed, United, Bold”.  Assistant Superintendent of Operations Paul Aschenbeck will be KWHI’s first guest on the “BISD Roundtable” Thursday morning at 9:05 a.m. on AM 1280, FM 101.7, and kwhi.com.

  1. The children look like they are in a prison camp. All distances in a line with their faces covered.

    1. Yep the reason my kids are being homeschooled. No fun for those kids that are in school. All day everyday like a prison.
