POSITIVE COVID-19 CASE CONFIRMED AT BRENHAM MIDDLE SCHOOL

TWO POSITIVE CASES REPORTED SO FAR IN BRENHAM ISD

Brenham ISD has confirmed its second positive case of COVID-19 in a student, this one at the Brenham Middle School.

According to a notice sent to parents and guardians early this (Monday) afternoon by Brenham Middle School Principal Peggy Still, the affected student was last on campus on Friday.  The district has begun a case investigation, and the student has gone into quarantine.  The student will not be able to come back until 10 days after the start of symptoms and 24 hours after fever and symptoms have resolved.

According to Brenham ISD COVID-19 Response Leader Jamie Woodall, no instances of close contact with the student have occurred, so the affected student will be the only one sent home to quarantine.  She said students and staff continue to properly follow COVID-19 protocols outlined in the district’s coronavirus response and prevention plan.

Anyone who is determined to have close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual will be contacted via phone, and will be required to remain off campus through the 14-day incubation period.

The district confirmed its first case of COVID-19 September 22nd in a Brenham High School student, who was last on campus the evening of September 17th.

Woodall said she continues to expect positive cases to be reported, as is the nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, but there is no reason for alarm with these two cases.  She encouraged parents to continue keeping their children at home if they are not feeling well.  She added that as students and staff get into a routine, it is possible to forget to socially distance or wear a mask, but reiterated the importance of continuing to do so.

Brenham ISD’s full COVID-19 response protocols can be seen in the district’s reopening plan, which is available here.
