A community-wide pep rally brought students and families together to recognize this year’s Homecoming Court and enjoy performances from the Brenham High School Band, Belles dance team and cheerleaders.  Veterans were also recognized through performances by the JROTC and choir.

Homecoming festivities this year are taking on a Brenham Cub spin to “Coachella,” with students celebrating “Cubchella” for spirit week.  There is not a homecoming dance or parade.

  1. As one of the organizers of this event, I feel the need to respond to the negative criticism of our first community pep rally. The other organizer and I thought it was important to give our students some sense of normalcy this year and I apologize that it did not meet your expectations. First, the other organizer and I are teachers, not hired professional event planners. We put a lot of time, while continuing to do our normal job, into trying to make this the best event it possibly could be while providing a safe environment for our students, staff and community members. Was the event perfect, no, but given the circumstances and parameters that we are all currently working with, we gave all the effort we could to make this event happen. I truly appreciate all of the community members, parents, students, administrators and fellow teachers that helped with our first community pep really. Enough with the negativity, think positive and be kind. Go CUBS!

Disappointed Fan and Go Green, BLESS YOUR HEART.

    1. I appreciate your efforts, along with the other organizers, but I stand by my comments and would prefer you accept them as constructive criticism rather than negativity. The dictionary defines a Pep Rally as “a meeting before a sports contest, to stimulate group enthusiasm by rousing talks, music, songs, cheers. etc. This did not happen. Never expected the event to be perfect, — did expect enthusiasm prompted by exciting band music, cheers and chants from the cheerleaders and fans on their feet from excitement.

      1. First, congratulations and a big thank you to Ms. Fuchs and Ms. Kolby for organizing and giving the students a Homecoming pep rally under obviously difficult conditions. The easy choice would have been to do nothing, and just tell the students “sorry…it’s because of Covid”. Thankfully these two ladies did not do that. They put together an event for THE STUDENTS. I’m fairly certain that those students and their parents do not share the sentiment of the “disappointed fan”. We cannot expect things to be perfect during this time. We should applaud those who try to bring some normalcy to our lives, and the lives of these students. They’ve missed out on so much the past 8 months. Let’s remain hopeful that their high school activities can continue as we navigate these difficult times.

    2. Jennifer,
Thank you!!! Thank you for all the hours you put in outside of the job you are paid to do. I have seen you continue to go above and beyond again and again. All in an effort to make students have a wonderful high school experience. Appreciate You and the work you do!!

    3. Thank y’all for trying to put some normalcy into this school year for our kids. Nothing is ever perfect and the effort put in and the thought behind it says all I need to know. God bless y’all and good luck. Please don’t let this dishearten you. Let it encourage you to keep doing good and to keep thinking out of the box. ❤❤❤

    4. Mrs. Fuchs,
I just want to thank you & Mrs. Kolby for all you did for our kids. We needed some normalcy & you guys did your best & worked so hard to make this happen. I thought the pep rally was great & fun for the kids. Our family truly appreciates it & will never forget this week for the rest of our lives! We feel very grateful for all the teachers who are going above & beyond for our kids. It does not go unnoticed!

      Thanks again & Go Cubs!!!

  2. I thought it was very well done, given the circumstances of 2020; I actually preferred it over the parade! Yes, there may have been some down time, but this was also the first time having a community pep-rally during homecoming week. I enjoyed getting to see all the different school clubs/organizations perform, something you do not typically see during an in school pep-rally. The students and teachers have had to adjust to so many changes over the last 8 months, with new requirements that are given at the drop of a hat, that I think we should just be thankful to have even been able to have this event. THANK YOU to the organizers of this event, whom yes, are teachers that are currently trying to keep their heads above water and get our children educated during this pandemic. Thank you for fighting for our kids and trying to give them the best year you possibly can.

  3. With all due respect, the pep-rally last night, was anything but ! It was an awkward span of long periods of silence by the announcer, or lack of an announcer. The JROTC and Color Guard was introduced as the Brenham band. The choir director chose to treat the National Anthem as “the flavor of the month”. Our anthem is an honorable and patriotic song that has a tune and inflections that have stood solid over time. I appreciate creativity, but the song was almost unrecognizable. The Band production was lovely, but did not fit the purpose of the rally. If it was to honor the Veterans, then it should have been patriotic. If it was for the ‘Pep’ in the rally, then it was somewhat deep and dark. The procession of the homecoming court onto the field was silent and gloomy. All being said, I think that the event was poorly organized. I certainly do not blame any of the students. They worked very hard for last night. However, I do think the adult leaders let both the students and fans down. Of all the years in recent history, last night should have been a peppy, fun time for everyone ! That is what a Pep rally is for— to lift our spirits and encourage school pride. We all needed an hour to forget the tragedy that 2020 has presented us. Instead, we sat waiting for some announcement as to what was being done next, and without any spirit being encouraged. I think the organizers missed the mark!

    1. I’m glad you made your statement so well prepared. No enthusiasm whatsoever put into the pep rally…..kids deserved much more. Hope the organizers learn from this blunder & years coming not repeat. Students need fun & uplifting at this time. Thank you for well written comments.

    2. By “adult leaders” and “organizers”, are you referring to the teachers who, most likely, were responsible for making it happen? The same teachers who are trying to TEACH during a pandemic? Get over yourself.
