TWO CONTESTED RACES THUS FAR FOR CITY, SCHOOL BOARD, BLINN ELECTIONS IN MAY

FRIDAY LAST DAY TO FILE FOR ELECTION

With two days remaining for prospective candidates to file for May’s municipal and school board elections, the spring ballot is starting to take shape.

As of today (Wednesday), there will be one contested race for the Brenham City Council: incumbent Keith Herring and challenger Shannan Canales will face off for the Ward One seat.  Atwood Kenjura and Leah Cook are running for the respective seats of Andrew Ebel and Susan Cantey, who have both announced they will not seek another term on the council.  Incumbent Clint Kolby has also filed for re-election.

Meanwhile, the Brenham School Board will also have a contested race between trustee Tommie Sullivan and challenger Michelle Walbeck.  Trustee and Board President Natalie Lange, along with trustee and Board Vice President Melvin Ehlert, are currently unopposed in their bids for re-election.

There are currently no contested races for the Burton City Council, Burton School Board, and Blinn Board of Trustees.

On the Burton City Council, incumbents Nathan Kalkhake, Paul McLaughlin, and Macey Tidwell will seek election.  No applications have been received for the seat of Mayor David Zajicek, who is not running for another term.

Two candidates have filed for the two at-large trustee positions up for election on the Burton School Board: incumbent David Warner, Sr. and Boris Jumper, Sr.  One of the trustee positions on the ballot was held by Tracey Cox, who resigned from the board in November.

For the Blinn Board of Trustees, no candidates have filed aside from incumbents Reverend Randy Wells and Rebecca Ehlert.

Friday is the last day to file for a place on the ballot, while Tuesday is the final day to declare write-in candidacy.  Election Day is Saturday, May 1st.
