BURTON CITY COUNCIL TAKES NO ACTION ON REPAIR ITEMS

The Burton City Council opted for no action on a pair of items concerning repairs at its meeting Tuesday.

The council first considered repairing or replacing the lights that shine on the flagpoles on Highway 290 in Burton.  However, the council tabled the item, stating it wanted to receive more quotes for the project.

So far, the city has received one quote from Harmel Electric to fix the two poles for $1,876.  City Secretary Adrian Cepeda said she has submitted a letter to Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative asking to donate money for the project, but she has not yet heard back.

The council also took no action on approving Lucherk Services to repair Texas Street west of Railroad Street, by Los Patrones.  The city will use its own supply of gravel and dirt to repair the road.

During Mayor David Zajicek’s report, he announced the city has been approved for $72,353 from the American Rescue Plan Act Coronavirus Local Recovery Fund.  He said the funds are to be used for water, sewer and broadband, and believes they would be best put toward a new water well system.  Costs are to be incurred by December 31, 2024.

Zajicek also said the “massive amount of rain” recently has caused damage to several streets, including Texas Street, East Mulberry Street, Trinity Street, San Marcos Street and Live Oak Street.
