BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES BID FOR HIGHWAY 105 LIFT STATION, ENGINEERING AGREEMENT FOR RAW WATER INTAKE PROJECT
At a 10-minute meeting today (Thursday), the Brenham City Council quickly worked through items for a new lift station and upgrading the city’s raw water intake pumping station at Lake Somerville.
The council accepted the bid of Doughtie Construction, Inc. of Huntsville, one of seven bidders on the project, to build a 2,250-gallon-per-minute lift station on Highway 105 in the amount of $2,489,290. The installation will include electrical controls, supervisory control and data acquisition integration, a quick-connect for a portable emergency generator, and the necessary connections to the existing sanitary sewers and force main.
Municipal Gas and Utility Services Director Shawn Bolenbarr said the city has not worked before with Doughtie Construction, but positive feedback was received from the municipalities listed as references.
Councilmembers also approved a professional services agreement with Strand Associates for engineering services to rehabilitate the city’s raw water intake pumping station and replace its 18-inch transmission line with a new 24-inch line. The scope of work for the agreement, not to exceed $300,000, is for design, bidding-related and construction-related services.
Bolenbarr said he expects design and construction will take approximately a year and a half. He said his team is in the process of putting a temporary solution in place so that if anything happens, they will still have the means of getting water to the city.
