WASHINGTON CO. APPRAISAL DISTRICT SENDS OUT POSTCARDS INTRODUCING TRUTH-IN-TAXATION WEBSITE

  

Property owners in Washington County should keep an eye out for postcards from the Washington County Appraisal District informing them of a new property tax information website.

The new website, called www.washingtoncountytaxes.org, provides property tax information and details on the amount of taxes that each entity will impose if they adopt their proposed tax rates.

Taxing units will regularly update the website through September as local elected officials propose and adopt the property tax rates that will determine how much residents pay in property taxes.  The website will allow property owners to provide feedback on the tax rate process and provides property-specific information for each taxing unit authorized to levy a tax on the property.

Information provided includes: property values, proposed tax rates, an estimate of property tax rates that would be imposed under the proposed rates, dates and locations of public hearings on the tax rates, and other useful information on taxing unit budgets, revenue and rate calculations.

Residents are encouraged to check the website for updates throughout the tax rate adoption process until the end of next month.  The appraisal district noted that as of Thursday, none of the local taxing units had published their proposed tax rates.  The rates will show zero until the rates are proposed.
