SEALY ISD TO CLOSE SCHOOLS THURSDAY & FRIDAY DUE TO INCREASING COVID NUMBERS

The Sealy School District has announced they are closing schools on Thursday and Friday, due to rising COVID numbers.

Dr. Bryan Hallmark
(Sealy ISD)

Superintendent Dr. Bryan Hallmark says they plan for classes to resume on Tuesday, September 7, allowing students and staff to be apart from one another for 5 consecutive days.

Dr. Hallmark says school officials have been monitoring COVID cases throughout the weekend and have had more cases reported over the weekend and Monday. The current total case number stands at 42.

In a letter to parents, Hallmark says his biggest concern right now is having cases that are potentially connected, and the district has to “slow this thing down so it becomes somewhat manageable.”

Hallmark adds, “This will slow the spread and give us time to identify additional cases and quarantine those individuals. Unlike past variants, the virus is detectable with Delta in four days. By Sunday-Monday staff and families will likely know if they have COVID issues and need to quarantine.”

Moving forward, students and staff in the Sealy ISD with COVID cases in their homes will have to quarantine for 10 days or may return earlier with a negative, lab-confirmed test performed on day six or later of their quarantine.

Over the long weekend, Hallmark asks anyone in the district to report cases directly to Mary Gajewski mgajewski@sealyisd.com or bhallmark@sealyisd.com.

  1. it’s a wonder that nothing political has been made of this yet. I wonder if anyone has thought to inform the governor that while his mask mandates may be tied up in the legal system, I don’t know if there’s anything he can do about a school shutting down for a time. Maybe the TEA will decide to get in the middle of something like this.

“Freedom”,. “Home school if you’re afraid”. “This is no worse than the flu”. ” We’re all going to die some time”.

I truly hope that Sealy ISD can contact trace those affected and effectively control the rise in numbers of cases. It would certainly seem that a school district would be the optimum place for contact tracing.

  2. Have we not learned anything…shutting down on slows the virus, does not stop it. 15 days to slow the spread Ladies and Gents!

  3. We should close too, according to the schools covid dashboards there ‘s 110 cases in the district.
I see there’s 9 teachers just in the jr high with it, so that means they are probably struggling to find subs. Would make sense to close so everyone can get well and be ready for next week. As the Say, Students Safety is first…we shall see.

    1. Covid is not going away. There are already new strains besides delta. “Mu” is supposedly a worse vaccine evader than the ones so far. This is going to be with us forever, just like the flu. We are going to have to figure out how to carry on and live life. Instead of annual flu shots, we’ll have annual covid shots, which like flu shots, will target the top 2-3 strains that year.

Just like people still get the flu, people are still going to get covid. Managing is the answer. Shutting down is a good idea if this was a one-time event, like we thought it was in March of 2020. Shutting down over and over for rest of our lives is just not feasible.
