Washington County’s Justice of the Peace for Precinct 1 has announced he will seek re-election.

Douglas Zwiener is running for a fifth term in office after serving in the Precinct 1 post for the past 16 years.  Zwiener will run as a Republican.

Zwiener says consistency and service to the public are two qualities he greatly values.

Zwiener has lived in the Independence community for almost 45 years.  He is a graduate of Texas Tech University and the Law Enforcement Academy at Texas A&M University, and also holds numerous advanced proficiency certificates from Texas State University and the Mass Fatality Institute at Kingwood College.

Zwiener has volunteered for the past 30 years with the Prairie Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he holds the position of deputy fire chief.  He is also past president of the Washington County Firefighters Association and a past member of the Brazos Valley Council of Governments Homeland Security Committee.  He currently serves as president of the Washington County Bail Bond Board.

Zwiener believes his experience and collaboration with other county officials benefits the local court system.

All four Justice of the Peace positions are up for election next year.  The primary elections are currently set for March 1, 2022.
