The Precinct 4 Constable’s Office in Washington County is in the running for a $5,000 grant for its K9 program.

The constable’s office is among dozens of law enforcement agencies in Texas eligible to receive the Aftermath K9 Grant.  The winners of the grant are decided by the public’s vote online.

Constable Greg Rolling says the grant provides an opportunity to purchase training equipment to help his agency and its narcotics K9, “Aspen”, who is certified in detection of marijuana, cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy.

Rolling says the grant would also help the Precinct 1 Constable’s K9 unit, which includes Sergeant Brad Kuecker and K9 Riley.

There are four agency tiers for the grant, based on the number of officers and staff.  Rolling’s office is part of Tier 1, with 40 or fewer people in the agency.

The public has until Tuesday to vote for their preferred K9 program in the state.  Voting can be done once every 24 hours, but extra votes are possible by following Aftermath on social media.

Winners will be announced on Thursday.
