NAVASOTA POLICE INCREASING PATROLS AFTER FOUR SHOTS FIRED REPORTS THIS WEEK

POLICE BELIEVE REPORTS ARE CONNECTED TO RECENT FATAL SHOOTING

The Navasota Police Department is stepping up patrols after it says it has investigated four separate reports of shots fired this week.

According to a press release from Navasota Police Chief Shawn Myatt, the reports have come between Sunday and Tuesday.  Only property has been damaged, and no one has been injured.

Police believe all of the reports are related to the fatal shooting on Foster Street last week that resulted in the death of 24-year-old Fredrick Santee of Washington County.

The first report investigated was on Sunday just after 10:15 p.m. in the 700 block of Doris Street.  Officers arrived and discovered an occupied apartment had damage from multiple shots.

About 15 minutes later, officers who were investigating the first call heard shots being fired in the area of Baker Street.  Officers patrolled the area but could not locate where the shots came from.

Dispatchers received another call of shots fired roughly 20 minutes later in the 1200 block of Chinski Street.  The caller told police they heard multiple shots being fired in the area.  After patrolling the area, officers were unable to locate any evidence of an exact location.  No property damage has been reported by citizens in the area.

The latest report of shots fired came at 2 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Baker Street.  When police arrived, they found that a home had been shot multiple times.

Myatt said the department is taking precautions to prevent any further incidents by ramping up patrols.

Citizens are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the police department by calling 936-825-6410.  They can also contact Grimes County Crime Stoppers at 936-873-2000.
