BUCCANEER WOMEN STAY UNBEATEN WITH A 97-55 ROUT OF CISCO

Bucs are now 11-0 on the season and off to their best start since the 2012-2013 season

Hannah Humphrey, 20 points

The Blinn College women’s basketball team kept its undefeated season intact with a 97-55 rout of Cisco College in non-region play Saturday at the Kruse Center in Brenham.

The Buccaneers’ home victory pushed their record to 11-0, their best season-opening stretch since the 2012-13 Blinn squad opened its season 16-0.

On Saturday, there was little doubt the Buccaneers would maintain their dominance.

After Cisco scored the first bucket of the game, Blinn reeled off a 14-2 run to take control for good.

The Bucs led 23-12 after the first period before putting on an offensive showcase in the second. Blinn outscored the Wanglers 28-13 in the second quarter for a 51-25 halftime cushion.

The Buccaneers continued to knock down shots after the break and were ahead 82-40 with one period remaining.

“I think we played well today,” Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said. “I thought we played really well defensively and offensively, I thought the energy was good, and that’s a good team win.”

Four Buccaneers scored in double figures, led by 20 points from freshman Hannah Humphrey. Freshman Tiffany Tullis had 19, freshman Allana Thompson added 11, and sophomore Deja Adrian chipped in 10. Skylar Barnes and Makayla Patterson – both freshmen – tacked on nine points apiece.

In total, 11 Buccaneers found the basket.

“Everybody is always happy for each other when someone scores,” Humphrey said. “Everybody is always happy to pass, and I think we get more excitement out of assists than scoring our own points.”

Next up for Blinn is the start of Region XIV play. The Bucs travel to face 17th-ranked Panola College (8-1) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7.
