FEDERAL EMERGENCY FOOD & SHELTER PROGRAM FUNDING AVAILABLE FOR WASHINGTON CO., AREA COUNTIES

  

Washington County is one of several counties in the Brazos Valley that has been awarded federal funds under the Emergency Food and Shelter Program.

Washington, Brazos, Grimes, Leon, Madison and Robertson counties have been chosen to receive funds through the Department of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency.  The funding will be used to supplement emergency food, rent/mortgage and shelter programs in the counties.

Washington County will receive a combined $51,961 in Phase 39 funding and American Rescue Plan Act funds.  Combined funding amounts for area counties include:

  • Brazos County – $321,441
  • Grimes County – $48,149
  • Leon County – $28,611
  • Madison County – $18,994
  • Robertson County – $26,071

Any organization working to cover a broad spectrum of the residents in these counties in the areas of emergency food, shelter, rent/mortgage and utility needs is invited to apply for the funds.  Individuals are not eligible to apply.

Prospective applicants can download an application form or learn more at United Way of Brazos Valley’s website, https://uwbv.org.  Applications are due to United Way by 5 p.m. on Friday, February 25th.

A meeting of the local FEMA Emergency Food & Shelter Board will take place on March 4th at 11 a.m. via Zoom.  Those who apply will be sent an invitation to join the meeting.
