BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO RECEIVE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR RECOMMENDATION, DISCUSS POTENTIAL BOND PLANS

The Brenham School Board will potentially name a finalist to be Brenham ISD’s new athletic director when it meets tonight (Thursday).

Following an executive session, Superintendent Dr. Tylor Chaplin is expected to give trustees a recommendation for the position previously held by Eliot Allen, who joined Bastrop ISD as their athletic director in January.

Dr. Chaplin said Brenham ISD used a committee of school and community representatives during the search process.  Five candidates were interviewed out of roughly 100 applicants.  He said the district considered all interviewees to be “legitimate candidates and potential finalists for the position.”

Prior to discussing the athletic director post, trustees will consider approving the district’s 2020-21 financial audit performed by Belt Harris Pechacek.

At a second meeting, the board will meet in work session to go over possible recommendations from the district’s bond planning committee.  The meeting was initially planned last week, but was postponed due to the winter weather.

The committee met with the board on January 18th, discussing 13 major projects totaling nearly $154 million for trustees to consider.  The projects include the construction of a new junior high school and the conversion of the current middle school into a fourth elementary school.

Plans for the proposed junior high school would have it house grades 6-8, while all elementary schools would accommodate students in Pre-K through 5th grade.

The board will meet beginning at 6 p.m. in rooms 111 and 113 at Brenham High School.
