DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OFFENDER SENTENCED IN BRAZOS COUNTY

A domestic violence offender will be spending the next 12 years in prison after being sentenced in Brazos County.

Jose Lopez Jr. was convicted of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for attacking his wife in their home on June 23, 2017.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Lopez attacked his wife after she attempted to end their relationship and leave the home.

During the assault, Lopez is said to have grabbed her by the hair and punched her in the face several times. He then stomped her face while she was on the ground in the fetal position.

Lopez had fled the scene by the time officers arrived.

Testimony from a Bryan Fire Department medic and law enforcement indicated that the victim’s injuries were extensive and needed immediate medical care.

Lopez’s wife was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Bryan where she was treated for multiple injuries including a shattered nose and substantial swelling to her left eye and left hand.

Witnesses also testified that Lopez had a history of abusive behavior that went unreported, included a prior adjudicated assaulted in 2012 that sent the victim to the hospital.

Brazos County District Attorney Jarvis Parsons said, “The willingness to pummel the face of a woman you claim to love should be unimaginable. We are thankful that a Brazos County jury sent the message that this conduct is unacceptable.”
