McDADE WATERMELON FESTIVAL JULY 9 – 11

  

Just over two weeks remain before the start of the 78^th McDade Watermelon Festival.

Numerous activities will fill downtown McDade the weekend of Saturday, July 11^th, with shopping, dancing, a parade, a 5K, games and contests among the fun in store.

The schedule opens on Thursday, July 9^th with check-in for the barbecue cook-off opening at 4 p.m.

On Friday, July 10^th, cook-off registration will start at noon.  Wyatt Ellis and the Texas Unlimited Band will perform for a dance at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, July 11^th will get underway with the Sweating Melons 5K at 7 a.m.  Melon weigh-in will be held until 9 a.m., at which time vendor booths open and the barbecue cook-off begins. 

The grand parade will ride through downtown McDade at 10 a.m.  Live music will be performed throughout the day by Los Funky Monkeys and the Jacob Essary Band.

Other events will include washer and cornhole tournaments, a watermelon attire contest, the Watermelon Draw Down game, a watermelon eating contest, a seed spitting contest, the presentation of the new Watermelon Queens and parade marshal, a prize melon auction, and a free melon feast.

Proceeds from the festival go to community organizations.
