A Washington County home is a total loss after a fire Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called out shortly before 2 p.m. to a structure fire in the 1100 block of Luedemann Lane, in the Gay Hill area.

According to Gay Hill Volunteer Fire Chief Curtis Rodenbeck, units arrived to find a single-story wood structure home fully involved.  A few grass fires started because of strong winds.

Numerous fire departments responded, including the Gay Hill, Brenham, Prairie Hill, Berlin, Rocky Creek and Burton Fire Departments.  Units were on scene for four hours, returning to service around 6 p.m.

Rodenbeck said the home was completely destroyed.  One vehicle at the house suffered heavy fire damage.

No one was in the home at the time of the fire, which remains under investigation.  A cause is not yet determined.
