BURTON ISD PARTNERING WITH TAMU TO BRING MOBILE CLINIC TO COMMUNITY

A mobile clinic is coming to Burton through a partnership between Burton ISD and Texas A&M University.

During her report to the Burton School Board on Monday, Superintendent Dr. Edna Kennedy said the Texas A&M School of Nursing has secured a $4 million grant for the next four years to bring a mobile clinic to the district.  The clinic will serve students and the public one day a week.

Dr. Kennedy called the partnership “absolutely phenomenal.”

Since the clinic is being built, Dr. Kennedy said the district will start with a needs assessment.  The university will bring it to the district to provide services and resources, and will also do training with district staff.  The goal is for the clinic to self-sustain within the next four years and then consider a brick and mortar facility in the community.

Dr. Kennedy said Burton is thrilled to be one of only a few beneficiaries through this grant opportunity across the state.

Dr. Kennedy said the district will incorporate a place for the mobile clinic to be stationed, but she and trustees also discussed the possibility of setting it up at a local church or the EMS station.  Trustee Dean Fuchs said since the clinic is operating through a university program that trains nurses, it could be a great learning opportunity for Burton students.
