BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO REVIEW INFRASTRUCTURE DESIGN MANUAL

The Brenham City Council will receive a presentation today (Thursday) on the city’s Public Infrastructure Design Manual.

The purpose of the manual is to enforce the quality of professional design standards and materials used to construct public infrastructure, such as the water utility and road network, within the city.  Its goal is to ensure that construction in the city, whether done by a private developer or in-house city crews, is consistent, cost-effective, maintainable and protects public safety.

The city’s existing Design and Construction Standards manual was adopted in June 1996.  Since that time, four amendments to the standards have been put forward by former city engineers.  In 2021, the city entered into an agreement with LSPS Solutions, LLC to complete a rewrite of the manual.

Following direction from the council, the proposed manual will be slated for review and action at its meeting on September 1st.

Also at today’s meeting, the council will:

  • Consider an ordinance on its first reading amending the Fiscal Year 2021-22 adopted budget.
  • Hear an update on the Brenham Police Department from Police Chief Ron Parker.
  • Receive the Fiscal Year 2021-22 third quarter financial report.
  • Hold an executive session regarding the lease between the city and Washington County for the communications facility at 301 North Baylor Street.

The council will meet at 1 p.m. at Brenham City Hall.
