Giddings ISD Superintendent Roger Dees sent out a letter to parents after a student was caught with what turned out to be a BB gun that was brought onto the Giddings Intermediate School campus this (Friday) morning.
The letter from Dees, which is also posted on the Giddings ISD Facebook Page, said that a teacher identified what they suspected was a prohibited weapon in a student’s backpack.
The teacher confiscated the item and reported it to campus administration. District and campus administration consulted with the School Resource Officer, who did a further investigation.
The item in question turned out to be a BB gun, which is not permitted on campus.
Dees said that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.
He also thanked the staff member that reported the incident and helped the administration quickly resolve the situation.
Dees added that Giddings ISD takes all reports seriously and will continue to take the appropriate action to ensure the safety of its students and staff.
The letter also says that they hope parents will speak to their children about the importance of reporting any situation that might compromise their safety and security to school staff or an administrator.
