BURTON CITY COUNCIL TO ADOPT PROPERTY TAX RATE

The Burton City Council will hold a public hearing and consider formally adopting and setting the property tax rate for next fiscal year at its meeting Tuesday.

The proposed no-new-revenue rate of $0.32131 per $100 valuation is 10 cents less than the current rate of $0.4246.  It consists of $0.073738 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.247572 for interest and sinking (I&S).

The effective levy at the no-new-revenue rate is $55,000.  In comparison, the effective levy at the voter-approval rate of $0.329989 would be $58,000.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the council will consider:

  • A mobile home variance for 12316 East Hickory Street.
  • The closing of East Texas Street in between North Railroad Street and North Main Street from noon to 8 p.m. on October 8th for the Burton Beautification and Ordinance Compliance Committee’s Toast & Smoke event at Laas-Weeren Park.
  • The closing of North Railroad Street from the school to FM 390 and from FM 390 to the post office drop box, and for West Texas Street to be blocked on the west side of North Railroad Street, for the Trick or Treat Trail on October 29th from 6 to 8 p.m.

The council will meet Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Burton City Hall.
