A longtime employee of the City of Brenham was killed and her husband was seriously injured after a two-vehicle accident Saturday in Belize.

Shelley Addison and her husband, Chris, were traveling in a Jeep on the Hummingbird Highway towards the capital city of Belize, Belmopan, when they collided with a container truck.  The accident was first reported by Breaking Belize News.

Both were taken to the hospital, where Shelley was later pronounced dead.  As of Sunday, Chris was still hospitalized.

Shelley, a graduate of Brenham High School, worked for the City of Brenham for 34 years, most recently as the city’s utility customer service supervisor.

The City of Brenham released a statement this (Monday) afternoon in remembrance of Shelley:

Shelley Addison (right) is pictured at a Brenham City Council meeting in October 2018, receiving a service recognition for 30 years working for the city in utility billing.

With heavy hearts, the City of Brenham family remembers and honors our friend, Shelley Addison.

Shelley began working at the City of Brenham on October 27, 1988, as an Accounting Clerk.  She held several roles in the organization from Accounting Clerk, Payroll Clerk, Computer Billing Operator, Assistant Utility Billing Supervisor, and was recently promoted to Utility Customer Service Supervisor.  You could find Shelley in her office early in the morning or well after 5:00 PM working on the accuracy of utility bills, talking with customers, or verifying meter reads.  Her positive attitude and free spirit could be heard in her joyful laugh each day.

Over her 34-year career, she modeled a true public servant’s heart, and her commitment and dedication to the community were extraordinary. Shelley was a special person and will be deeply missed.
