HISTORIC PRESERVATION BOARD APPROVES REQUEST TO ADD STORAGE CONTAINER AT FLOYD’S WINE LOUNGE

The Brenham Historic Preservation Board gave the go-ahead on Tuesday for a downtown business to add a shipping container onsite.

The board unanimously approved a Certificate of Appropriateness (CoA) application from Floyd’s Wine Lounge at 315 South Baylor Street to set a 20x8 shipping container next to the BNSF rail spur.  The container will be used for dry goods and patio storage, not expanded seating.

Board members stated the addition of the container was appropriate and compatible for this specific location, given the building’s history and its proximity to the railroad tracks.

No electricity is needed for the container, which will use passive ventilation and either solar powered or battery lighting.  The double doors from the container will be removed and replaced with a 7x36 door.

The outside of the container will be painted to complement the wine lounge’s building colors.  A mural will be added to the side of the container facing the railroad tracks to the south.

Also on Tuesday, board members determined that future meetings will only be convened when there is a CoA application for review.  Meetings will take place on Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m.

The board was also informed that Mike Vance resigned from his seat due to his responsibilities with the Brenham Heritage Museum’s upcoming re-opening on November 17th.  The Brenham City Council will make an appointment to fill the vacancy at a later date.
