CITY OF GIDDINGS CHOOSES THEIR NEXT CITY MANAGER

  

The Giddings City Council has chosen their new City Manager. Guillermo Garcia was selected from three finalists for the vacant position.

For the past two years, Garcia has been serving as the Strategic Initiatives Manager for the City of Fort Worth.

Garcia, who is originally from Del Rio, has a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Park University, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Management from Sul Ross State University.

He has also been a sergeant in the U.S. Army, and an infantryman in the Texas Army National Guard.

Garcia is a former executive director for the City of Kerrville, and served in various positions for the Tyler city government.

Mayor Linda Pruitt told the Giddings Times that while Garcia has not been a city manager before, he has been second in the chain of command, and what really impressed her and the council members was his extensive knowledge of city government.

At last week’s Giddings City Council meeting, Jacob Janda made the motion, which was seconded by Mark Muniz, to authorize Mayor Pruitt to execute a city manager employment agreement with Garcia.

The motion was unanimously approved.

Garcia’s official start date is going to be July 27.

Meanwhile, City Finance Director Heather Garner, who has been serving as the Interim City Manager, will be returning to her original position on that date as well.
