The Burton City Council officially closed the books on the city’s election season on Tuesday with the swearing in of the final winning councilmember.

Macey Tidwell, who won re-election to Position #5 in the June 13th runoff over Berneake Gantt, received the oath of office to begin her new term.

The special meeting to swear in Tidwell was called after she was unable to attend the council’s June 16th meeting, where Sheila Ripple was administered the oath of office for the Position #2 seat upon defeating incumbent Tommie Gilmon.

The two council positions went to a runoff following ties in the May 2nd election.  The third seat on the ballot in that election, Position #3, was won by Charly Ruemke over incumbent Jeff Eckhardt.

Following the election business, the council approved designating Mayor Karen Buck and the rest of the councilmembers as authorized signers for City of Burton bank accounts at Citizens State Bank.  It then moved into a workshop for new councilmember orientation.
