CITY OF BRENHAM ISSUES $67.9 MILLION IN PERMITS IN 2022
City of Brenham building permits tallied at $67,981,152 in total for the year of 2022.
The value and number of permits, at 432, fell shy of 2021’s 439 permits for $93,309,754.
Homebuilding maintained a similar pace last year as it did the year prior. In 2022, 181 new homes were permitted for $31,659,236, compared to 190 new homes for $34,297,073 in 2021. Residential renovations and additions last year outdid 2021, combining for 151 permits on $6,082,174 this past year while totaling 149 permits on $3,742,003 two years ago.
A major difference between the two years was new multi-family residential permits: 2022 saw none, but 2021 had three for $16,109,370.

On the commercial side, there were 13 new commercial building permits for $12,591,169 in 2022, down from 2021 when there were 21 permits for $15,290,810. Commercial renovations and additions in 2022 calculated at 65 permits for $16,726,852, while the year before had 61 permits for $23,191,986.
Notable permits during the month of December included a $538,430 permit for interior remodeling of restrooms at Brenham National Bank, a $520,000 permit for a new home in the 2400 block of Oak Hollow Lane, a $500,000 permit for buildout of a James Avery store in the Brenham Crossing shopping Center, and a $300,000 permit to remodel the building at 1200 South Austin Street for Busy Bees Daycare.
The city issued 18 permits in December for $2,617,056, down from 41 permits for $4,498,597 in December 2021.
