Burton ISD trustees on Wednesday broke ground at the site of the school facilities project and heard an update on how it is progressing.

DSA Construction Management Project Manager Stad Tomlinson said some challenges have presented themselves with the weather, but work has begun for the stadium and crews are “adamant” about working whatever hours they can to keep on schedule.

Tomlinson said it is a balancing act between all of the different workers involved with various portions of building the stadium to stick to the timeline.

A scheduling sheet provided by Tomlinson showed that construction of the stadium and home parking is projected to be complete by the end of July.  Work at the high school and for the remaining parking should be done by January 2024.  The renovations for the junior high and cafeteria are expected to be finished by January 2025.

  1. They sold this bond as putting the students first. Only thing it looks like was put first was a football stadium. You would think a cafeteria and classrooms would have had priority over a football field.

    1. This past season the Burton football team did not play at home due to the planned construction. I’m sure they are trying to get that finished prior to this fall.

      1. It’s all a huge waste of money!! But the money into education instead of a stupid football field!!

        1. If you know anything about what Burton has now, and what it needs, you would understand that the bond was a necessary thing, with improvement and upgrades throughout the school.
I have several properties in Burton that the bond affected, and I still voted Yes, because it was the right thing to do.
Did you go to the meetings and see what was needed/proposed? We did, and it was, and is needed. I hate spending more money than is necessary, but sometimes you have no choice.
