Update @ 10:05 a.m.: Brenham School Board candidate Michael Brewster’s campaign has ended shortly after it began.

Brewster told KWHI this (Thursday) morning that he has discovered he is ineligible to run for the school board, as he lives in the county and pays Burton ISD taxes.  He said he will have to formally withdraw from the race.

The Brenham ISD administration office confirmed it spoke with Brewster this morning, and that he would withdraw his candidacy.

Brenham ISD notified KWHI Wednesday morning of Brewster’s filing for the Position 1 seat formerly held by Mark Schneider.  KWHI spoke with Brewster Wednesday afternoon for a candidate interview.

Brewster was set to run against Bonnie Brinkmeyer for the trustee position.  Brinkmeyer now returns to being the only candidate in that race with one day remaining before the filing deadline.

The two contested races thus far are between incumbent Dr. Michael Altman and Archer Archer, as well as Kyle Hafner and Artis Edwards Sr. for the spot of outgoing trustee Susan Jenkins.  Incumbent Kelvin Raven is currently unopposed.

Original Story @ 8:40 a.m.: A third position on the Brenham School Board will be contested come the May 6th election, as another candidate has filed.

Michael Brewster is seeking election to the vacated seat of Mark Schneider, who moved out of the district.  Michael is the owner of Kwik Kopy in Brenham along with his brother, Chris.  He is also a worship leader and the founder of Stronghold Bible Outreach, which provides free bibles to people in the community.  Brewster will face Bonnie Brinkmeyer for the position.

Brewster says he aims to bring in new ideas and make sure every family feels valued.

Prior to owning Kwik Kopy, Brewster worked as a personal trainer and as a police officer for the City of Giddings and Blinn College.

Brewster says he would like to improve introductory teacher pay and have faculty and staff members participate in more hands-on safety training with local law enforcement.  He would support concealed carry for qualified staff who are comfortable doing so.  In addition, he is in favor of implementing a policy to remove cellphones from the classroom except in an emergency.  He would also like trustees to be more involved in the day-to-day instructional process so that they can maintain a presence in schools and build rapport with students and teachers.

Brewster says he treats everyone with respect, courtesy and compassion.

The other two contested races thus far are between incumbent Dr. Michael Altman and Archer Archer, as well as Kyle Hafner and Artis Edwards Sr. for the spot of outgoing trustee Susan Jenkins.  Incumbent Kelvin Raven is currently unopposed.

Tomorrow (Friday) is the final day to file for a place on the ballot.
