BLUEBONNET SEASON BEGINS IN WASHINGTON CO.

Bluebonnets, Indian Paintbrushes and other colorful wildflowers are popping up all across Washington County.

Lu Hollander, Tourism and Marketing Specialist for Visit Brenham, says because of the warm weather of late and the rain received at the end of last year, bluebonnets are blooming early.  She believes lots of people will be coming in over Spring Break to enjoy the flowers, but it also means the season may reach its peak sooner than in previous years.

Hollander says the roadsides of Highway 290, particularly Highway 290 West, are always full of wildflowers.  Other good spots include behind the Walmart Supercenter, by the industrial park and along FM 389.

While there are the tried and true places to see bluebonnets, Hollander says there may also be some new locations to check out.

Anyone hunting for photos in the bluebonnet fields is reminded to be mindful of their surroundings and to never trespass onto private property.

An interactive wildflower watch map is available at www.visitbrenhamtexas.com, with updated flower locations and safe places to view them.

  1. My husband and I had reason to drive up to Hempstead a few days ago and while the bluebonnets are short, lol, they are a beautiful color this year and very thick when you find patches already blooming…they are just gorgeous. Get out and see them, they’re not just for the ones that don’t live here….

  2. The bluebonnets have always seems to come early and the Bluebonnet Festival always seems to be a week or two late to catch them in their peak bloom.
